Explore the Scottish Borders

Covering about eighteen hundred square miles, the Scottish Borders stretches from the rolling hills and moorland in the west, through gentler valleys to the rich agricultural plains of the east, and on to the rocky Berwickshire coastline with its secluded coves and picturesque fishing villages such as nearby Eyemouth and St Abbs and there are fantastic surfing opportunities at Coldingham Sands.

There are numerous castles and tower houses nearby which provide a flavour and insight into less peaceful times when the border between Scotland and England was less static and controlled by powerful reiver families. Berwick upon Tweed has a unique history having been controlled by Scots and English intermittently throughout the early medieval period and the scene of numerous bloody seiges. The town was massively refortified during the Elizabethan period and now boasts three magnificent bridges over the Tweed.
